King Fahad National Library Showcases Manuscript Restoration Techniques at Riyadh Book Fair

Riyadh: The King Fahad National Library’s pavilion at the Riyadh International Book Fair 2025 is drawing interest with a dedicated booth that introduces visitors to the latest methods and techniques for restoring and treating valuable books and manuscripts.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the booth features a display of specialized restoration tools and materials, including ink fixative, magnesium for de-acidification, glycerin for paper moisturizing, caustic soda, and a paper scale. Notably, it also showcases natural Japanese paper imported specifically for manuscript repair.

Restoration technicians at the pavilion are providing simple, clear explanations of the step-by-step process used to return damaged manuscripts to their original condition.

The library follows a precise and professional multi-stage process for handling received documents and manuscripts from both government agencies and individuals. This rigorous procedure includes sterilization, treatment, restoration, microfilming, digital imaging, and binding.
