King Saud University Medical City and Seha Virtual Hospital Launch National Telesurgery Program

Riyadh: King Saud University Medical City has launched the Saudi Telesurgery program in partnership with Seha Virtual Hospital, Zain KSA, and EDGE, a company specializing in robotic devices and solutions.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the first phase of the program involved seven surgical procedures performed over three days. The procedures covered several surgical specialties, including bariatric, general, obstetric and gynecologic, and thoracic surgery. The first day featured four consecutive surgical cases across different specialties, each involving complex challenges, in a pioneering experience that demonstrated the advanced capabilities of telesurgery technologies.

The program is not limited to performing a specific number of procedures. However, it aims to develop a Saudi national protocol for telesurgery with the participation of medical, technical, and digital expertise. The program will also open new opportunities to use telesurgery technologies during major seasons and gatherings, including the Hajj season, as well as in humanitarian and emergency cases requiring access to specialized medical and surgical expertise in difficult-to-reach locations.

The program supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to develop the healthcare sector, advance digital transformation, leverage modern medical technologies, and build an innovative and sustainable healthcare system.
