KSrelief Supervisor General: Saudi Arabia is Major Global Donor, Model for Humanitarian Work

Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah emphasized that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a major international donor and a model of humanitarian assistance, supporting those in need, displaced persons, and refugees while improving their living conditions. Over the past years, the Kingdom has become a beacon of international humanitarian work and a hallmark in this field.

Dr. Al Rabeeah made this statement during a meeting hosted by the Saudi Society for Opinion Writers, noting that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, issued directives to establish KSrelief on May 13, 2015, as the Kingdom’s humanitarian arm and to elevate its humanitarian efforts globally.

Since its establishment, Dr. Al Rabeeah stated, KSrelief has implemented approximately 3,105 humanitarian and relief projects in 104 countries, amounting to over $7 billion and spanning various vital sectors.

He explained
that KSrelief aims to be a leading international center for relief and humanitarian activities by applying the highest global standards and best practices in governance. The center is founded on principles of neutrality, transparency, quality, professionalism, initiative, creativity, partnership building, and community support.

Dr. Al Rabeeah also provided an overview of KSrelief’s initiatives to advance Saudi humanitarian work, including the establishment of a Saudi aid platform, a platform for displaced persons and refugees, a Saudi volunteering portal for external volunteering, an electronic donation platform (Sahim), and an online portal for registering international humanitarian organizations and institutions. He highlighted significant projects, such as the Saudi Project for Demining in Yemen, “Masam,” which has successfully removed 466,711 landmines indiscriminately planted in various Yemeni regions, claiming innocent lives among children, women, and the elderly. Additional initiatives include the pro
sthetic limbs program and the Saudi Program for Separating Conjoined Twins, which has achieved international recognition with 61 successful surgeries since its inception in 1990, evaluating 142 cases from 26 countries over the past 34 years.

Dr. Al Rabeeah noted that Saudi Arabia hosts approximately 1,093,000 refugees, representing 5.26% of the Saudi population, including 561,911 refugees from Yemen, 262,573 from Syria, and 269,442 from Myanmar.

He also highlighted the Kingdom’s swift response to the earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey, establishing air bridges to assist victims and dispatching volunteer teams, rapid response teams, and medical personnel from Saudi Arabia to support affected populations.

Dr. Al Rabeeah added that, through KSrelief, the Kingdom has made substantial contributions to alleviate the humanitarian crisis facing Palestinians in Gaza by providing food, shelter, and medical aid via air and sea bridges, as well as delivering quality food assistance through aerial drops to those a
ffected in the region.

He concluded by noting the Saudi leadership’s directive to extend medical and relief aid to the people of Lebanon in response to their critical situation.
