Khoury talks economic cooperation opportunities with Rampling, Penny

Caretaker Trade and Economy Minister, Raed Khoury, on Thursday welcomed in his office at the Ministry the British Ambassador to Lebanon, Chris Rampling, accompanied by Her Majesty's Trade Commissioner for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Simon Penny, who came on a courtesy visit.

The UK Commissioner briefed Minister Khoury on the role he plays in the region to promote trade and investment opportunities between the UK, Lebanon, Jordan and other countries.

Penny said he pins great importance on Lebanon's pivotal role in promoting trade with the Gulf and Africa.

Discussions also dwelt on the subject of trade negotiations between Lebanon and Britain in light of the latter's exit from the European Union.

Khoury, in turn, highlighted the importance of economic development in this period of time by strengthening joint cooperation between Lebanon and Britain, especially in transferring British technology and knowledge to the Lebanese industrial sectors and improving the conditions for the entry of Lebanese goods to British markets.

Both sides agreed to "set practical steps to promote trade and investment between the two countries."
