Rahi meets Ambassador of Uruguay, former Brazilian President
Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Rahi, received this Thursday at the Bkirki patriarchate the Ambassador of Uruguay to Lebanon, Marta Pizzanelli, on a farewell visit to mark the end of her diplomatic mission in Lebanon.
"We discussed the current situation in Lebanon and we wish a government will be formed as soon as possible. This matter is important to all the Lebanese people as it would strengthen the Lebanese State," said Pizzanelli.
Rahi then welcomed former Brazilian President, Fernando Collor, and his spouse, accompanied by the Ambassador of Brazil and a delegation of diplomats. Discussions touched on a number of topics including the recent presidential elections in Brazil and the status of the Lebanese community there and its achievements at all levels.
Rahi summarized the history of Maronites in Lebanon, stressing the "coexistence formula that brings together Muslims and Christians in this unique country of the Middle East."
At the end of the meeting, Patriarch Rahi presented Collor with a medal of the Order of Saint Maron and bestowed upon him his Apostolic Blessing.
On a different note, Rahi met with Deputy Nadim Gemayel, with talks dwelling on local topics, especially Christian reconciliation and the process of forming a new government.
