Makkah: The General Administration of Education in Makkah Region is marking International Literacy Day, observed annually on September 8, to highlight the role of adult education in sustainable development.

According to Saudi Press Agency, schools across the region are hosting activities promoting lifelong learning, including student success showcases, life-skills discussions, vocabulary-building initiatives, and competitions.

The region's network includes 32 continuing education schools staffed by 133 teachers and 28 administrators, along with nine community centers dedicated to adult empowerment.
