Makkah:Makkah is experiencing a significant urban transformation that aligns its sacred sites with modern infrastructure, turning the city into a continuous hub for economic and developmental activities in accordance with Saudi Vision 2030.

According to Saudi Press Agency, strategic development in sectors such as housing, hospitality, retail, logistics, and transport is shifting Makkah from a primarily seasonal economy to one that is diversified and driven by investment. The Pilgrim Experience Program's 2025 report highlights the implementation of 87 initiatives by over 60 partner entities, achieving full compliance. During this period, the Kingdom saw an influx of over 19.5 million international pilgrims, including 18.03 million Umrah performers and 1.5 million Hajj pilgrims, marking a 114% increase in Umrah arrivals compared to 2022. Satisfaction rates were impressively high, with 91% for Hajj pilgrims and 94% for Umrah performers, surpassing national benchmarks.

Key urban projects such as the Masar Destination, the Jabal Omar development, and various district regeneration initiatives have enhanced accommodation capacities, improved municipal services, and integrated multi-use facilities to support increasing visitor numbers. This growth is supported by a multimodal transport network, including the Haramain High Speed Railway and the Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Metro Project, alongside upgraded road corridors.

Academics from Umm Al-Qura University noted that the transformation combines architectural heritage with modern engineering and digital advancements. Dr. Musab Alsubhi of the College of Business and Economics emphasized that these investments bolster long-term economic competitiveness and sustainable job creation in hospitality, retail, and logistics. Dr. Omar Osrah of the College of Engineering and Architecture pointed out that smart-city technologies, data analytics, and crowd-management systems enhance operational efficiency while preserving Makkah's spiritual essence.

The expansion also emphasizes cultural and religious enrichment, with 87 rehabilitated historical and heritage sites in Makkah and Madinah attracting over 55 million visits.

In 2025, Makkah ranked fifth globally for attracting international visitors, serving as a model for sustainable urban planning and modern service delivery dedicated to the care of pilgrims.
