Supreme Health Council, WHO to boost cooperation

Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), Lt-Gen Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, today discussed with WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Ahmed Salim Al Mandhari, ways to enhance health cooperation.

Health Minister Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh and WHO Representative for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain, Dr Ibrahim Jawdat Al Zik, were present .

The SCH Chairman highlighted Bahrain's commitment to continue cooperation with the WHO. He reviewed the SCH initiatives to develop the health sector supported by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

He said the comprehensive development of the health care sector is a priority of Bahrain's National Health Plan (2016-2025) recently approved by the Cabinet, expressing appreciation of the WHO's cooperation and support for the same strategy that constitutes a road map for the health sector in Bahrain.

He reviewed the development of the Health Insurance Programme aimed at building a solid health system based on quality and sustainability in the provision of health services.

He stressed keenness to achieve a sustainable partnership with the WHO and to benefit from the international expertise, welcoming the level of cooperation with the WHO to attain Bahrain goals of sustainable development.

The WHO Regional Director congratulated Bahrain on the development and reforms seen by the health system, which represent a keystone of the sustainable human development. He underlined the WHO's keenness to broaden cooperation to boost the health sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Health Undersecretary Waleed Al Mani', SCH Secretary-General Ibrahim Al Nawakhtha, Health Assistant Undersecretary Dr. Mariam Al Hajiri and Health Assistant Undersecretary for Primary Health Dr. Manal Al Alawi were also present.
