NCW Extends Third Phase of Initiative to Regularize Unlicensed Wildlife Possessions

Riyadh: The National Center for Wildlife (NCW) announced the extension of the third phase of its initiative to regularize the status of unlicensed wildlife possessions held by individuals until June 30, 2026, instead of the previously scheduled deadline at the end of May.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the center stated that the extension comes in response to requests from beneficiaries seeking additional time to document ownership. The initiative is part of national efforts to regulate wildlife possession and ensure compliance with the Environmental Law and its executive regulations governing the housing, breeding, and trade of wildlife.

The third phase complements the first two phases of the initiative, which focused on regularizing the status of falcons, private wildlife collections, breeding and housing centers, and businesses engaged in the sale of wildlife products and derivatives. The current phase targets individuals who possess or handle wildlife on a large scale.

The initiative aims to regulate wildlife ownership, document legal possession, preserve owners' rights, and enhance housing and care standards in accordance with environmental and health requirements. It also seeks to reduce unauthorized practices that may affect natural habitats or threaten the sustainability of wildlife species.
