NSHR Chairman: Saudi Arabia Plays Important Role in Taking Care of Families

The world celebrates the International Day of Families on the fifteenth of May each year, following the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993, as an official occasion to highlight the importance that the international community attaches to families.

On this occasion, Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al-Fakhri, Chairman of the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR), affirmed the need to raise awareness and draw attention to family-related issues and their crucial role in building a vibrant and stable society. He stated that family-related issues have always been a priority for the NSHR, given the role that families play in the development process. Saudi Vision 2030 has also given special attention to families by providing them with all the necessary support to care for their children and develop their talents and abilities.

Al-Fakhri highlighted that the Basic Law of Governance in the Kingdom recognizes the importance of families. Article nine of the same law states that “the family is the nucleus of Saudi society; its members shall be brought up based on Islamic creed”. Furthermore, Article Ten confirms that “The State shall aspire to promote family bonds and Arab-Islamic values. It shall take care of all individuals and provide the right conditions for the growth of their talents and skills.”

Al-Fakhri noted the Kingdom's efforts to take care of families by issuing family-related regulations that will contribute to granting families the greatest possible protection, motivation, and assistance so that they can fully assume their responsibilities in society.
