OIC Condemns Approval of Law on the Execution of Palestinian Prisoners

Riyadh: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed its strong condemnation of the approval by the so-called Israeli Knesset of a law permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners, considering this a dangerous and unprecedented step that grants a licence for murder and political execution against the Palestinian people, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

According to Saudi Press Agency, a press release issued by the OIC General Secretariat warned of the gravity of the crimes to which thousands of Palestinian prisoners are subjected in Israeli occupation prisons. These include torture, ill-treatment, humiliation, terror, rape, starvation, the systematic deprivation of the most basic human rights, and the direct targeting of their lives. This is seen as an extension of the ongoing crime of genocide committed by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem.

The OIC called on the international community, including the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, to take the necessary measures against the so-called Israeli Knesset. The organization urged the activation of mechanisms of accountability against Israel, the occupying power, and called for exerting pressure to repeal this unlawful law, protect the rights of Palestinian prisoners, and work towards their release.
