OIC General Secretariat Emphasizes Continued Support for UNRWA’s Mandate

Jeddah: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has reaffirmed the political, legal, and humanitarian role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in protecting and providing relief to Palestinian refugees. This includes the provision of humanitarian services in the fields of education, healthcare, and social protection to refugees in the occupied Palestinian territories of the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, Jerusalem, as well as in refugee camps in the diaspora.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the general secretariat emphasized the unity of the Palestinian people at home and in the diaspora, and the legal, political, and geographical unity of the territory of the occupied State of Palestine in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

It reaffirmed the need to respect UNRWA's role and responsibilities, protect its institutions, and preserve its mandate and the authority granted to it under United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. 302 of 1949 in its five areas of operation. The general secretariat emphasized its rejection of any attempts to undermine UNRWA's vital role, which cannot be reduced, abolished, or replaced.

The general secretariat urged all member states, various international parties, and donors to support UNRWA financially, politically, legally, and through the media to enable it to continue providing its services to Palestinian refugees.
