On the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, the Arab League calls on the Security Council to assume its responsibilities and provide protection for the Palestinian people

Baghdad - The Arab League called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities by implementing the rules of international law and working to provide protection for the Palestinian people.

The League said in a statement on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the issuance of the Balfour Declaration: “What is happening these days in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank is a continuation of the series of massacres, displacement, and emptying the land of its original inhabitants that began with the ill-fated Balfour Declaration.”

It added: "The responsibility today falls on the international community, especially the Security Council, to take decisive and rapid measures to protect the Palestinian people and bring justice to them from the consequences of that shameful statement and this criminal war, by obliging the Israeli occupation authorities to immediately stop their aggression against civilians and stop the policy of forced displacement and Racial cleansing and systematic destruction of the lives of the Palestinian people, confronting the apartheid regime and colonial settlement, and desecrating Islamic and Christian lives and sanctities, especially in the city of Al-Quds and the Holy Mosque.”

It stressed: “Standing on the right side of history consists of standing next to the Palestinian right and the Palestinian people, and there is no other formula that can lead to stability and security in the region other than the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Al-Quds as its capital, according to Relevant international legitimacy laws and resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative.”
