PM’s Advisor: Popular Participation In The Elections Is Acceptable, And There Are Errors And A Surplus In The Ration Card For Voters

Baghdad Advisor to Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi for electoral security affairs, Muhannad Naim, described the current popular participation in the last elections on October 10 as acceptable, pointing out that there are errors and surpluses in the voters' ration card register.

Naim said, in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA), that "the current voter register does not depend on the population census in order to achieve a high popular participation rate in the electoral process. Therefore, the ration card was relied on in the voter register and the record of previous electoral processes." .

He added: "There are many errors in the ration card, and we believe that 20% of the current ration card record includes a surplus, because the Ministry of Health often does not write off the numbers of deaths from the ration card, which includes long-dead citizens."

He explained, "The current popular participation in the elections, we believe, is acceptable, but it is not completely satisfactory," noting that "the institutions of the Commission and the judiciary worked in effective cooperation and coordination with the government to reach this result."

And on the possibility of changing the final results from the announced preliminary results, the Prime Minister’s advisor for electoral security said, “The announcement of the final results depends on resolving the appeals submitted to the commission, and it does not constitute an effective difference because the commission will consider all appeals in accordance with the procedures of the law.”
