Qassim Melons Lead Agricultural Scene, Boost Economic Activity

Riyadh: Qassim Region is currently witnessing the peak of the melon harvest season, where the fruit is considered one of the region's most prominent summer crops for decades.

According to Saudi Press Agency, public markets across Qassim governorates, particularly the central market in Buraidah and the governorates of Unaizah and Al-Mithnab, have transformed into vibrant hubs that receive thousands of vehicles loaded daily with the finest varieties of melons.

Farmer Abdullah Al-Hanaya stated that Qassim's land is characterized by soil composition suitable for melons to grow to an ideal size and achieve high sugar content. He noted that most farmers in the region have extensive experience in determining irrigation schedules, applying organic fertilizers, and selecting premium hybrid seeds.

Regarding the melon varieties available in the markets, Al-Hanaya noted that they differ according to size and taste. Traditional local melons are known for their strong aroma and classic flavor favored by older generations, while American melons are distinguished by their thick rind and high durability during transportation and export. Yellow melons, meanwhile, are characterized by their smooth skin and exceptional sweetness.
