RCRC Initiates Construction of Underpass at Major Riyadh Intersection

Riyadh:The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has begun constructing a new underpass at the intersection of King Abdulaziz Road and Anas bin Malik Road. The project aims to enhance traffic flow and connectivity between neighboring districts along one of the capital’s primary corridors.

According to Saudi Press Agency, a traffic diversion was implemented at the intersection on November 6, 2026. This diversion involves the complete closure of the main carriageway of King Abdulaziz Road, with vehicles redirected to service roads featuring three lanes in each direction. Comprehensive traffic management measures, including alternative routes and directional signs, have been established to maintain traffic flow and ensure safety.

The King Abdulaziz Road project, part of the Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program, stretches 4.7 kilometers and encompasses the construction of four bridges and the new underpass. Once completed, this initiative is expected to increase road capacity to over 450,000 vehicles daily, improve service levels, and reduce travel times.

The broader program involves the construction and upgrading of over 500 kilometers of roads throughout Riyadh. It focuses on establishing new roads, enhancing existing main corridors, and improving links between them. The effort aims to fortify the city’s transport network, supporting Riyadh's evolution as a central hub for sustainable transport and logistics services in the Middle East.
