Red Sea Museum Launches ‘Photographing Distance’ Exhibition in Jeddah

Jeddah:The Red Sea Museum, under the Museums Commission, has opened the "Photographing Distance" exhibition by Argentine artist Matilde Marín at its location in Historic Jeddah. This marks the exhibition's debut in the Kingdom and it will be available to the public until December 31.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the exhibition features a collection of photography and video installations that document lighthouses from various parts of the world, including Jeddah and Yanbu. These works delve into the significance of lighthouses in maritime navigation, human memory, and the connection between people and their surroundings. The pieces, derived from Marín's "Pharus" project started in 2005, present lighthouses as enduring symbols of guidance and hope beyond their navigational purpose.

The opening ceremony included a guided tour by the artist, a discussion session, and a musical performance. This event aims to integrate contemporary art with the maritime heritage of the Red Sea. An ongoing public program accompanies the exhibition, featuring film screenings, poetry evenings, creative photography workshops, and family-oriented activities like lighthouse model-making.

This initiative is part of the Museums Commission's efforts to enhance the cultural landscape of the Kingdom and promote creative dialogue by introducing international artistic experiences.
