Sadek Indicates Opposition’s Options Favor General Joseph Aoun for Army Chief

Beirut: MP Wadah Sadek indicated that ‘the opposition’s options are almost decided, and they are in favor of agreeing on the name of the army commander, General Joseph Aoun, if that occurs.’

According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Sadek explained that ‘the opposition so far is clinging to the name of its former candidate, Jihad Azour, and is seeking to reach a consensual president with the largest number of votes.’ This statement highlights the ongoing political maneuvering within the opposition as they navigate the complexities of selecting a suitable candidate for the presidency.

In an interview with ‘Voice of All Lebanon 93.3″ Radio Channel this morning, Sadek expressed concerns about the upcoming session on January 9, stating, ‘There are no guarantees that the presidential white smoke will emerge from the session, and the only guarantee remains that the session will continue with successive sessions if no dramatic security deterioration occurs…awaiting the last quarter of an hour to find out whether the session will culminate in the election of a president.’ This underscores the uncertainty surrounding the political process and the potential for extended negotiations before a resolution is reached.
