Sharm el-sheikh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by General Court of Audit (GCA) President Dr. Hussam Alangari, concluded its participation in the 25th General Assembly of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt from October 27-31, 2025. The event saw participation from 800 members and affiliates representing over 195 member countries.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the assembly ended with Saudi Arabia being elected as the Chair of INTOSAI and its Governing Board for the 2031-2034 term. The Kingdom was also awarded the honor of hosting the 27th General Assembly in 2031. Additionally, the GCA received the INTOSAI ‘Future Award’ in recognition of its innovation and leadership in the auditing field.
Dr. Alangari presented key reports during the meetings, including one on the implementation of INTOSAI’s Strategic Plan (2022-2025), which had met all its priority objectives. He recognized the contributions of Strategic Goals Committee Chairs and the General Secretariat, and emphasized the committee’s ongoing commitment to support the INTOSAI community, enhancing transparency and accountability globally.
In his role as Chair of the INTOSAI-Donor Cooperation Steering Committee, Dr. Alangari highlighted the committee’s achievements in supporting Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in developing nations, and stressed the importance of maintaining effective partnerships between INTOSAI members and the donor community.
The assembly was also accompanied by the 79th INTOSAI Governing Board meeting, which evaluated the progress of the Strategic Plan, reviewed reports, and made decisions to bolster the work of INTOSAI committees.
Saudi Arabia’s delegation actively participated in plenary sessions of the technical symposium held alongside the General Assembly. Lama Alhammadi, VP of Financial Audit and Compliance, spoke on ‘The Role of Supreme Financial Audit Institutions in Auditing Central Banks and Government Activities During Economic Crises,’ where she highlighted the critical role of audit institutions in ensuring transparency and maintaining government performance during crises.
Ahmed Alqurashi, Executive Director of Financial Audit and Compliance, presented on ‘The Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools in Auditing,’ sharing GCA’s experience in enhancing audit efficiency through digital strategies like the Shamel Platform, the Digital Audit System.
Saudi Arabia’s delegation also showcased its advancements in automated auditing and professional capacity building through the Saudi Center For Financial and Performance Auditing, highlighting the use of advanced methodologies in various auditing practices.
Dr. Alangari engaged with leaders of peer SAIs to discuss cooperation and exchange of knowledge, aiming to build on the outcomes of the Assembly through executive programs and partnerships, thus strengthening GCA’s role as a leader among global and regional Supreme Audit Institutions.
