Lyon: Secretary-General of the Saudi Health Council Dr. Nahar Al-Azemi participated in a recently held international scientific conference in the French city of Lyon as part of a high-level roundtable attended by health ministers who are members of the International Agency for Research on Cancer, marking the agency's 60th anniversary. The participation highlighted Saudi Arabia's efforts to boost international cooperation in disease prevention and control and reduce the spread of cancer and its complications.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Saudi Arabia possesses the region's oldest cancer registry, established more than 30 years ago. The registry has contributed to developing cancer-control services and policies across preventive, treatment, and social dimensions. Average life expectancy in 2026 rose to 79.7 years compared with 77 years previously, while the target is to reach 80 years by 2030.
The Kingdom's healthcare sector witnessed a major transformation following the launch of Saudi Vision 2030. Health transformation efforts have focused on improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare services, facilitating access to healthcare, boosting prevention against health risks, and enhancing road safety. Saudi Arabia has also contributed effectively to Gulf Cooperation Council efforts to develop cancer prevention and control programs.
