Manila:The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) and the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) have initiated an awareness campaign called 'It's AI' to address the challenges posed by AI-powered deepfake technologies. This initiative aims to educate the public on responsibly navigating digital content and recognizing the risks associated with fabricated videos and other misleading media that might appear genuine.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the campaign aligns with the Year of Artificial Intelligence 2026 and focuses on empowering individuals to safeguard their personal data while enhancing their skills in verifying digital content. As technology evolves, creating realistic images, videos, and audio that mimic real individuals becomes more prevalent, complicating the task of distinguishing authentic content from fake. The campaign educates the public about deepfakes and the dangers they pose, such as misinformation, fraud, identity theft, and reputational harm. It offers practical advice on protecting visual and audio identities and recognizing manipulated content, urging people to verify digital material through credible sources.

The initiative emphasizes the importance of not accepting viral videos as definitive proof merely based on appearances or audio. It advises against the hasty sharing of contentious content without verification to prevent the spread of misinformation and the reinforcement of false narratives.

This campaign reflects SDAIA's and CST's commitment to promoting safe and responsible AI use. It aims to foster a culture of verification and critical thinking, serving as a defense against deepfake threats and contributing to a secure digital landscape.
