Security Affairs Expert: Syria’s Presence At Riyadh Summit Is The Beginning Of Dismantling Outstanding Regional Political Files

The managing editor of the Middle East News Agency, an expert in regional affairs, Mahmoud Al-Shennawi, confirmed: The presence of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad at the Riyadh summit, after the decision to return Damascus to its seat in the Arab League, is an episode in a series of dismantling outstanding regional files, to which the Saudi-Iranian rapprochement was devoted in light of A pivotal stage that the region and the world are going through.

In a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA), he said: The return of Syria to its regional environment and its reintegration into the Arab political system again after a period of estrangement that exceeded a decade, despite the reservations of more than one Arab country, imposes a new fait accompli on the ground inside Syria.

He added: The countries that reject Syria's return to its seat in the Arab League, headed by Qatar, see that the reasons for Syria's exit from the Arab institution still exist, and that they did not find anything new in the Syrian reality, politically or humanely.

He expressed his belief that the objections from Qatar, Kuwait and Morocco will not affect much on the success of the Riyadh summit, just as these objections were neutralized regarding the decision to return Syria to the Arab League.

Al-Shennawi noted: President Bashar al-Assad's regime is required to take more confidence-building measures and enhance its presence on the Arab, regional and international levels, especially at the level of national reconciliation or political reform that stipulates the participation of all parties in governance, in addition to the issue of return, detainees and the disappeared.

He explained: The principle of disunity and division does not benefit any party and that everyone loses, pointing out: that Syria is a founding state of the Arab League, and its return must be an added value to the Arabs, especially after the end of the Syrian crisis and the devastation, destruction and suffering it caused, not to mention its economic repercussions.

He stressed that Syria's success in proving good intentions and implementing the conditions for return could contribute to launching an Arab Marshal project for the reconstruction of Syria, away from wills that do not want good for the conflict-torn country.

The Arab summit is scheduled to start in Saudi Arabia next Friday.
