Bahrain School hosted an International Iftar Day and a gargaoon gathering, in line with its commitment to celebrate diversity and local traditions.
Gargaoon is a traditional celebration in mid-Ramadhan in which young children dress in authentic Bahraini outfits and collect sweets and treats from family and neighbours. Songs marking the occasion, beats of drums and a folklore dance called fraisa are part of the celebration.
At Bahrain School, Arabic students and their teachers, wearing traditional clothes, gave away Gargaoon bags to students at the end of the day during their Study period.
Gargaoon songs were played while they went from class to class to distribute the bags.
In keeping up with its cultural traditions, Bahrain School also held a festive fun-filled international Day/Iftar. Two of their aspiring IB CAS students, Zoe Cochran and Veronica Shaukry, spearheaded this event for their final CAS project.
There were many stalls representing countries around the world, and food tasting to complement the experience. Live music, an open soccer ground, and perfect weather enhanced the memorable evening.
IB CAS stands for creativity, activity, service, and is an essential counterbalance to the academic rigor of the IB Diploma Program. It aims to motivate students to show initiative and perseverance, and to develop collaborative, problem-solving skills.
