SWA Enhances Water Supply Systems for Hajj Season 1447 AH

Makkah: The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) announced its operational readiness to serve pilgrims during the 1447 AH Hajj season through an integrated system designed to ensure a reliable water supply and uninterrupted services in Makkah and the Holy Sites.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the authority stated that the system has been prepared to meet the anticipated increase in demand during the Hajj season, one of the world's most densely populated and water-intensive operational environments, within a limited timeframe.

The authority confirmed that water production capacity has been increased to more than 3.8 million cubic meters per day, marking an 18% increase compared to the 1446 AH Hajj season. Transmission capacity was also raised to more than 2.3 million cubic meters per day, a 32% increase, enhancing supply efficiency and operational flexibility during peak demand periods.

Storage capacity exceeded 8.8 million cubic meters, representing an increase of more than 49% compared to the previous season. Distribution capacity also rose by 10% to more than 1.3 million cubic meters per day, ensuring the continuous provision of water services to pilgrims around the clock.

To strengthen operational integration, the authority adopted a unified operational code for water services in the Holy Sites this year. The code aims to regulate operational procedures, improve response readiness, and unify roles among relevant entities, contributing to greater efficiency and service reliability throughout the season.

Preparations also included operational testing and field simulations conducted in coordination with more than 18 related entities, as well as integrated planning for water supply chains linked to over 4,100 facilities across the holy sites. These efforts support the provision of safe and sustainable water services in accordance with the highest operational readiness standards.

The authority explained that Hajj season plans are based on integrating production, transmission, storage, and distribution systems, along with field readiness, monitoring and control centers, and enhanced operational response capabilities that operate around the clock to ensure uninterrupted service and a reliable water supply for pilgrims throughout the season.
