The German Ambassador announces the start implementation of a joint project with Iraq to produce glass in Najaf

Najaf: The German Ambassador to Iraq, Maximilian Rasch, announced that his country’s companies will begin implementing a glass production plant in Najaf Governorate with a production capacity of 1,000 tons per day.

Ambassador Maximilian Rasch said, at the ceremony announcing the start of the project’s implementation: ‘Investment in the private sector is a fundamental pillar of Iraqi-German relations, and Iraq needs large investments that will reflect positively on the development of the economy and the provision of job opportunities.’

He added, “The factory that will be built in Najaf Governorate by the German company (Hunk Las) is a living example of the close cooperation between Iraq and Germany.”

In turn, the representative of the Iraqi company involved in the project explained, ‘The reason for establishing the factory in Najaf is due to the availability of the raw materials for production, which is silica, and it will cover 25 to 30 percent of the local market’s need.’

He added, ‘The glass factory
to be implemented will have a production capacity of 800 tons per day of flat glass, in addition to the production of 200 tons for the production of glass bottles,’ noting, ‘The area of the project is 100 dunams and it will provide more than 600 work teams among people with different specializations and manpower.’
