The NATO mission announces an upcoming visit by the Assistant Secretary-General of the Alliance to Iraq

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission announced an upcoming visit by Tom Goves, Assistant Secretary-General to Iraq.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the head of the European Department, Ambassador Haider Mansour Al-Adhari, received at the Ministry’s headquarters, today, Monday, the Ambassador of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission to Iraq, Robert Dressen.

According to the statement, the meeting discussed joint cooperation files between Iraq and NATO, and the training programs provided by NATO advisors in Iraq.

During the meeting, Ambassador Dressen presented the periodic report of the NATO mission in Iraq for the period from May to August 2023, which included the progress made in achieving the long-term goals of the alliance with Iraq, as well as an overview of the follow-up of NATO’s program to build defense capabilities in Iraq.

Dressen expressed NATO Assistant Secretary-General Tom Goves' desire to visit Iraq at the end of this year to meet with Iraqi officials.

For his part, Ambassador Al-Adhari thanked the Alliance for its decision to train the forces of the Ministry of Interior and the Federal Police, in cooperation with the Iraqi government, and for the advisory and training efforts that the Alliance provides in Iraq."
