The Saudi Foreign Minister stresses the importance of immediately stopping the military escalation and providing relief to those affected in Gaza

Cairo, On behalf of Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Saudi Foreign Minister, headed today the Kingdom’s delegation participating in the “Cairo Peace Summit,” held to discuss… The conflict in Gaza and its environs, and the future of the Palestinian issue.

The Saudi Foreign Minister delivered a speech at the summit, at the beginning of which he expressed his thanks to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Egyptian government for the efforts made to enhance regional and international coordination and consultation regarding the dangerous developments we are witnessing in the Gaza Strip.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs said: The tragic events taking place in Palestine necessitate urgent action to put an immediate end to military operations, provide protection for civilians, and release hostages and prisoners, in compliance with international norms and laws, and common humanitarian principles, pointing to the necessity of finding a peaceful solution to this crisis that will bring the region out of The recurring cycle of violence, spares bloodshed, and establishes a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace.

He affirmed the Kingdom’s categorical rejection of violations of international humanitarian law by any party and under any pretext, expressing the Kingdom’s denunciation of all targeting of civilians wherever they are, and calling on the international community to take a firm stance by obliging Israel to respect international humanitarian law.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan said: “We reject the duplicity and selectivity practiced by some in the international community. Here, words are not enough. Rather, there must be serious action. We call on the international community to put pressure on the Israeli side to lift the siege and stop the military operations that have claimed the lives of innocent people and threaten undesirable consequences.” We praise this for regional and international security and stability, and we also affirm our categorical rejection of attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians by Israel.”

The Saudi Foreign Minister expressed disappointment at the inability of the UN Security Council to take a position on the current crisis so far, calling for the immediate opening of safe humanitarian corridors, allowing the evacuation of the injured, and enabling the delivery of relief aid and medical equipment without restrictions, to mitigate the humanitarian disaster and prevent its aggravation.

He stressed the Kingdom’s adherence to peace as a strategic choice, by standing with the brotherly Palestinian people to restore their legitimate rights and establish their independent, sovereign state on the Palestinian territories within the 1967 borders, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the Kingdom’s keenness, since the outbreak of this crisis, to consult and coordinate with its brothers and partners in the international community, expressing his hope that this summit will contribute to stimulating decisive action by the international community to find a solution that will end this crisis, allow for an exit from the tunnel of suffering, and pave the way for serious dialogue. On the future of the Palestinian issue, and discussing ways for the international community to support a just and lasting peace in the region that achieves security and prosperity for all, stressing that the Kingdom will continue its efforts with all partners to reach this goal.

At the end of the speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said: The Kingdom’s highest priority is to immediately stop the military escalation, to stop the bloodshed, and to provide relief to those affected, in order to create the appropriate conditions for working towards peace.
