With the Help of AI, Social Responsibility Can Yield Great Benefits, Says SDAIA President

President of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) Abdullah Alghamdi said that making use of AI while exercising social responsibility has the enormous potential of creating a better world, adding that by harnessing the power of AI, fundamental changes can be witnessed in the field of education, health, humanity, moral responsibility, and environmental sustainability, benefitting humanity.

Speaking at the two-day Global CSR Forum, which started here Monday under the theme “From Commitment to Impact,” he said that SDAIA’s commitment to social responsibility supported its endeavor to build human capacity in the field of data and AI, particularly through the Elevate initiative, which aims to empower and train 25,000 women, the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad, in which contestants from 25 countries participated, and the ALLaM model, the first Saudi-developed AI system designed to answer user questions about different fields of knowledge in Arabic.

In the field of health, Alghamdi said that SDAI
A, together with several partners, developed ‘Eyenai’, an AI solution for eye health, which uses advanced analytics and smart algorithms for early detection of eye diseases and helped diagnose 846 patients over the past year.

SDAIA also works to empower individuals with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorder, by facilitating their access to their digital cards issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development via the digital wallet in the Tawakkalna application.

Concerning charity work and volunteering, Alghamdi referred to the Ehsan platform and its use of data and AI to manage charitable donations, which resulted in collecting more than SAR8.3 billion and impacting the lives of more than 4.8 million beneficiaries, noting that SDAIA supervises the volunteer work of a number of non-governmental organizations for which it made available 51 programs and initiatives.

SDAIA also collaborates with the ministries of environment, water, and agriculture and energy to achieve Sau
di Vision 2030 in environmental sustainability, said Alghamdi, detailing the role of data analysis and planning with AI in the urban afforestation project, which is part of the Saudi Green Initiative.

He added that by establishing in Riyadh the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics, in partnership with UNESCO, the Kingdom demonstrates its commitment to adhering to the principles of AI ethics.

He also said that the AI potentials can be activated through cooperation between governments, companies, and individuals, with a focus on ethical considerations and human values.
