Work on installing diversions begins

The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, in partnership with the Ministry of Interior's General Directorate of Traffic, has started works to install an additional left diversion from Riffa Avenue to Muharraq Avenue.

The works are in line with directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, to develop urgent solutions to ease traffic flow across the Kingdom, and form part of a package of urgent improvement works designed to alleviate traffic in vital areas.

The Ministry of Works confirmed that the project includes two left diversions and a separating lane for vehicles heading left towards Muharraq Avenue and east on Riffa Avenue, as well as improvements to road lighting. The project includes new traffic signals and road painting to ensure security and safety on the road.

The Ministry of Works explained that the project is anticipated to alleviate traffic on Riffa Avenue by 45 percent and increase the road's capacity by 12 percent.

The Ministry noted that the project will help alleviate traffic bottlenecks on Riffa Avenue leading to Muharraq Avenue, especially during peak times, and will benefit residents across the Southern Governorate, in particular those travelling from the Clock Tower towards the Riffa area.
