Al-Khobar Certified as a Healthy City by WHO

The World Health Organization has certified Al-Khobar as a healthy city for meeting tourism, entertainment, and health standards.

Secretary of the Eastern Region Eng. Fahd bin Mohammed Al-Jubeir highlighted the importance of this certification to promoting community participation, inter-sector cooperation to address health determinants and development, and fulfillment of the standards and requirements associated with healthy cities.

He stressed that the designation of Al-Khobar as a healthy city means commitment to further enhancing this esteemed status, and will significantly bolster Al-Khobar’s economic, social, tourism, and health standing, eliciting optimism and pride in the community.

He also highlighted the positive impression made by the city on the visiting WHO delegation that was carrying out the evaluation process, and the various models and examples reviewed for potential application in evaluating other healthy cities.

Al-Khobar Governorate boasts over 100 parks and gardens in residential areas
, green spaces covering over 2,250,000 square meters, 47 multi-use playgrounds, and 20 walkways spanning 52 kilometers. As part of the Al-Khobar Green Program, more than 150,000 trees have been planted throughout the city.

Al-Khobar Municipality is actively working on dedicating 15 kilometers to bike paths to improve the quality of life and address the needs of the elderly. These initiatives highlight projects and standards that will further enhance Al-Khobar’s status as a healthy city.
