The Egyptian presidency announced today, Wednesday, that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussed in Cairo with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken ways to enhance efforts between Egypt, the United States of America and Qatar to move forward in the ceasefire negotiations, exchange prisoners and detainees, and facilitate the implementation of humanitarian aid to Gaza. The presidency confirmed in a statement that "Cairo rejects any attempts to escalate in the region, and that Egypt supports Lebanon after the attack on the wireless communication devices (pagers)." In a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati, Blinken said that "the ceasefire is the best way to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and confront the risks of regional destabilization." Blinken stressed that "15 out of 18 items in the ceasefire proposal were agreed upon, but the remaining issues need to be resolved." Regarding the "pager" bombings in Lebanon, Blinken commented that: "It is important to know exactly what happened in Lebanon yesterday, and we continue to work to find out."
