‘Al-Safri’ Season Inherited Climate Culture Known to Northern Borders Residents

Al-arar: The 'Al-Safri' season, a significant transitional period between summer and autumn, commences in early September each year, lasting approximately 27 to 40 days. This season marks a shift from the intense summer heat to the milder autumn weather, recognized as the first of the autumn seasons. In the Arabian Peninsula, 'Al-Safri' spans around 27 days, concluding around October 15 with the appearance of the Al-Jabhah star in the eastern sky, which is the first notable star to rise after the Suhail.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the term 'Al-Safri' or 'Al-Asyfar' is derived from the yellowish tinge that people's skin takes on due to seasonal illnesses or the yellow hue of the sun's disk and the dusty atmosphere prevalent during this period. This time is marked by significant weather variations, especially as it coincides with the Suhail star season. During 'Al-Safri', temperatures gradually decrease, while humidity rises, creating an uncomfortable climate. The intense summer heat begins to wane, and cooler temperatures can be felt during the early morning hours as the season progresses. The changing weather also leads to an increase in colds, influenza, and various allergies among the population.
