Al-Sudani And Putin Discuss The Presence Of Russian Oil Companies In Iraq

Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani met today, Tuesday, with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, as part of his official visit to Moscow, which he arrived this morning, in response to an official invitation.

An official statement from the Prime Minister's Office stated, "During the meeting, an expanded meeting was held that included the official Iraqi delegation and the Russian side, which dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries, and mechanisms for enhancing joint cooperation in various vital fields, most notably the energy file, and the development of the oil industries sector, as well as discussing the presence of Russian oil companies in Iraq, which is witnessing a major movement in the field of investment, within the government’s vision and strategy to advance the Iraqi economy and diversify its resources.”

The statement added, "The meeting witnessed discussion of a number of regional and international issues of common interest, and the serious developments of current events in the occupied Palestinian territories."

Al-Sudani stressed, "Iraq's firm position on the Palestinian issue, which affirms the right of the Palestinian people to live in dignity and justice, calling on Russia to take urgent action with the permanent members of the Security Council to stop the ongoing attacks on the Palestinian territories."

For his part, the Russian President pointed to the depth of the historical relations between the two friendly countries, indicating that the energy sector is a promising and open field towards more fruitful and effective cooperation.

He welcomed Al-Sudani's participation in the sixth session of the Russian Energy Week Forum scheduled to be held tomorrow, which represents an important opportunity to expand the horizons of the partnership between the two countries in developing the energy, oil and gas sectors.

Regarding the recent events that took place in the Palestinian territories, Putin indicated “movements and efforts being made to stop the dangerous security repercussions that are clearly escalating.”
