Riyadh: Archaeological coins discovered in AlUla Governorate offer material evidence of the region's vibrant economic history, documenting its role as a civilizational center linked to caravan routes and trade networks across successive historical periods.

According to Saudi Press Agency, coins are among the most significant archaeological findings for studying economic activity, revealing monetary systems and commercial relations between civilizations. Discoveries at the Hegra site include silver coins dating to the eighth and seventh centuries BC, Nabataean bronze coins from the first century AD, and Umayyad Islamic coins from the late first century AH, reflecting the continuity of economic activity in AlUla through the ages.

These findings indicate that AlUla was an active hub for the exchange of goods and cultures, linking the southern Arabian Peninsula with the Levant, Egypt, and the Mediterranean basin.
