Arab League Secretary-General Denounces Israeli Actions in Lebanon

Beirut: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit strongly condemned the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, including the targeting of civilians and the destruction of villages and archaeological sites in southern Lebanon, in violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and international law.

According to Saudi Press Agency, in a statement, Aboul Gheit stressed the need for an immediate cessation of the aggression and warned of its repercussions for regional security and stability. He also affirmed the importance of the Security Council assuming its responsibilities and compelling Israel to implement Resolution 1701.

Aboul Gheit reaffirmed the Arab League's solidarity with Lebanon and its people and support for measures taken by the Lebanese state to restore security and stability and extend its sovereignty over all its territory. He also reiterated support for calls for a ceasefire, a full Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, and the return of displaced persons to their areas.
