Riyadh: FIFA has appointed Italian referee Maurizio Mariani to officiate Tuesday's World Cup match between Saudi Arabia and Uruguay. According to Saudi Press Agency, Mariani began his refereeing career in Italy and took charge of his first Serie A match in 2013. He was awarded FIFA international status in 2019. The Saudi Arabia-Uruguay fixture will be his first match as a referee at a FIFA World Cup. He previously officiated the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League and served as fourth official in the 2025 UEFA Europa League final.
