Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, met today, Tuesday, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda, Vincent Biruta, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two sides discussed, according to a statement by the Foreign Ministry, ways to enhance bilateral relations between Iraq and Rwanda, as Fuad Hussein expressed Iraq's interest in opening up to African countries and developing relations with them. They stressed the importance of exchanging experiences and expertise in dealing with internal conflicts and post-conflict societies, which contributes to finding ideal models for coexistence and enhancing opportunities for building and maintaining internal peace. The two ministers agreed to take the necessary steps to start diplomatic relations between the two countries in the near future, including signing an agreement to establish diplomatic relations and exchange diplomatic r epresentation, reaching resident representation. The meeting also discussed the opportunities for economic and trade cooperation available between Iraq and Rwanda, and ways to coordinate positions in international forums.
