Geneva: General Authority for Competition CEO Dr. Fahad bin Ibrahim Alshathri participated in the 23rd session of the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy, alongside heads of competition authorities and international experts from around the world. According to Saudi Press Agency, during the opening session, Dr. Alshathri delivered an address in which he highlighted the authority's regulatory achievements and their impact on enhancing market efficiency and fairness under an advanced legislative framework that the authority continuously aligns with the highest international standards in competition policy. In his remarks, he emphasized that fair competition is a fundamental pillar for boosting productivity, improving consumer choice, fostering innovation, attracting investment, and strengthening the overall efficiency of the economy. He further explained that the authority adopts a comprehensive approach based on the effective enforcement of the C ompetition Law, complemented by proactive advocacy through raising awareness, conducting market studies, promoting compliance, and working closely with government entities and the private sector to remove regulatory and structural barriers that may restrict competition. This integrated approach contributes to building markets that are more efficient, fair, and sustainable. The participation reflects the authority's ongoing efforts to strengthen Saudi Arabia's international presence in multilateral economic forums and to exchange expertise with peer authorities, contributing to the advancement of competition policies and the promotion of a fair and effective business environment in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
