The General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has installed 244 water mist fans in the Grand Mosque. Utilizing fog-cooling technology, these fans absorb heat from the external air, lowering the temperature in the courtyards around the Holy Kaaba by approximately 6 degrees Celsius, enhancing comfort for worshippers and visitors.
The authority explained that these fog fans operate by pumping water at a minimum pressure of 40 bar through microscopic nozzles, each measuring only 4 microns, which release a fine, cool mist. Positioned about 4 meters above the ground, each fan measures up to 38 inches in diameter, with an airflow capacity of 1,100 CFM that extends up to 10 meters.
This system is recognized as one of the most effective cooling solutions, with each fan offering a cooling capacity of 52 kilowatts and achieving a cooling efficiency exceeding 50%.
