Public demand for manga, with their various stories and magazines, at the Riyadh International Book Fair 2023 attests to its popularity among younger people, and brings back childhood memories. This Japanese word came to denote cartoons, comics and animation.
Representative of Manga Alarabia pavilion at the book fair Abdullah Al-Faisal told the Saudi Press Agency that Arabic manga is produced by the Saudi Research and Media Group (SRMG), which specializes in the world of comic books. He added that the group either purchases the rights to the content from Japan and translates it into Arabic, or produces Arabic content and comics by a group of Arab writers and artists from Riyadh.
According to Al-Faisal, Manga Alarabia targets young people over 10 years of age, and that its pavilion at the Riyadh International Book Fair 2023 includes free editions of a variety of Manga Alarabia.
The pavilion, Al-Faisal said, offers to write the names of visitors in Japanese, a photography corner for children to take pictures with their favorite manga characters, and a coloring area.
