Iraq invites Swedish companies to invest, especially in infrastructure reconstruction projects

Iraq called on Swedish companies to invest, especially in infrastructure reconstruction projects.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Affairs, Muhammad Hussein Muhammad Bahr Al-Uloum, received the Swedish Ambassador, Jessica Sfar-Dstrom, and discussed with her strengthening the bonds of the relationship between the two friendly peoples, and the support of the Swedish government for Iraq in various political and security fields and the war against the terrorist gangs of ISIS.

Bahr Al-Uloum stressed, according to the statement, the need to continue work in confronting ISIS terrorist gangs and other terrorist organizations that contain multiple nationalities, calling on Swedish companies to invest, especially in infrastructure reconstruction projects, and to create a more efficient economic and investment environment conducive to work and production.

The two sides stressed the need to reactivate the joint Iraqi-Swedish committee, and discussed the European support provided to the Iraqi community residing outside Iraq and cooperation in human rights issues.

For her part, the Swedish Ambassador praised the development taking place in Iraq at various levels during the short period that followed the liberation of Iraqi lands from the terrorist gangs of ISIS and its elimination, which prompted Swedish companies to seriously consider working in Iraq after the security threats receded and the Iraqi government sought to address the obstacles that stand in the way of attracting foreign investment.

It also praised the efforts of the Iraqi government in the field of human rights, especially in strengthening the status and participation of Iraqi women in the political process.
