Jordan called on Tuesday for an emergency meeting of the Arab League at the level of permanent delegates to discuss a joint Arab response to the perilous illegal laws passed by the Israeli Knesset banning the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem. The meeting also will review the necessary steps to adopt a unified Arab position against these Israeli laws and measures and to mobilize international support to confront and invalidate them.
Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates spokesman Sufian Qudah said the Jordanian ambassador in Cairo and the permanent representative to the Arab League were directed to address the Secretariat General of the Arab League to hold an emergency meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent delegates as soon as possible to discuss the mechanism of joint Arab action to confront these illegal laws.
Qudah stressed that this st
ep is one of a series of measures and communications undertaken by Jordan and within coordination with Arab countries to confront aggressive Israeli practices against the Palestinian people. He warned of the disastrous consequences of the Israeli measures against UNRWA, which politically assassinate it and obstruct its humanitarian efforts for Palestinians in light of the unprecedented catastrophe they experience under the Israeli aggression on Gaza and escalations in occupied West Bank and east Jerusalem.
