Lebanon’s MoFA condemns Israeli strikes on UNIFIL, calls for investigation

Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants on Friday strongly condemned Israel’s deliberate targeting of UNIFIL forces in South Lebanon, following an airstrike on observation towers at the UNIFIL headquarters in Ras al-Naqoura and the Sri Lankan battalion, resulting in multiple injuries among peacekeepers.

The Ministry highlighted in a statement that these attacks represented a dangerous precedent, with Israel repeatedly violating international laws and UN Security Council Resolution 1701. It stressed that such actions not only threaten the safety of UNIFIL personnel, but also undermine the mission’s mandate.

‘Lebanon calls on the UN Security Council and the international community to launch an investigation and take firm measures against these violations,’ the statement added, warning that unchecked Israeli aggression could jeopardize peacekeeping missions globally and compromise the safety of UN personnel.
