The 18th Makkah International Dental Conference and Exhibition, being held October 24 to 26, featured several scientific sessions that attracted numerous participants interested in oral and dental health.
The first session was titled “Cosmetic Dentistry: Enhancing the Aesthetics of Veneers Through Comprehensive Gum Preparation from Diagnosis to Delivery.” It covered topics such as modeling posterior occlusal fillings using rapid prototyping technology, composite filling, selecting CL II matrices for restorative modifications, and discussing posterior indirect adhesive restorations. The session also explored dental adhesives and their bond strength.
The second session focused on gum health, addressing “Endometrium Diagnosis and Treatment of Gingivitis” as well as vital pulp treatment and the management of failed pulp treatment. It also included a discussion on diagnosing periodontal diseases within the framework of the 2018 periodontal disease classification system and surgical crown lengthening techniques
to achieve successful veneers.
The third session centered on dental implants, covering topics such as bone grafting in implant dentistry, current trends, timing of implant placement, risk factors, and factors contributing to implant success in diabetic patients. It also addressed implant dentistry without grafts and lip aesthetics.
The fourth and fifth sessions tackled overcoming modern dentistry and pediatric orthodontics challenges. They discussed hybrid orthodontic treatment as a new approach to enhance results while maintaining aesthetic requirements. Additionally, they covered interactions between orthodontic disorders and temporomandibular joint disorders, current trends in restorative treatment of molars affected by molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH), and the impact of mouth breathing on facial and skull development due to insufficient nasal ventilation.
Pediatric cosmetic dentistry topics included BioFlx crowns and the restoration of posterior proximal contact using simple orthodontic movements
with flexible separators, illustrated through a case report.
The conference aimed to serve as a platform for professionals in oral and dental health to enhance scientific research through competitions for the best scientific studies. It also included workshops and educational programs to gather industry professionals and enthusiasts under one roof, making it one of the largest dental conferences in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
