Nazaha President Engages with UNODC and UNDP on Global Corruption Measurement Initiative.

Vienna: President of the Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), Mazin bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, met yesterday with officials from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) in Vienna. These meetings aimed to discuss the advancement of Nazaha’s Global Initiative on the Measurement of Corruption and to prepare for the upcoming second Global Conference on Corruption Measurement.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting with the UNODC delegation was spearheaded by Brigitte Strobel, Chief of the Corruption and Economic Crime Branch, alongside Angela Me, Chief of Research and Trend Analysis Branch. The discussions also involved a UNDP delegation led by Sarah Lister, Director of Governance, with contributions from Anga R. Timilsina, UNDP’s Global Program Advisor on Anti-corruption, and Aida Arutyunova, Manager of the Anti-Corruption Program. Furthermore, the IACA was represented by Dean Sl
agjana Taseva, Director of General Affairs Petra Susak, and anti-corruption expert Hamad Al-Subaie.

The meeting focused on the progress achieved in the Global Initiative on the Measurement of Corruption, which aims to develop a global corruption measurement index. This index will be founded on scientific and objective principles, tailored to accommodate the varying political and legal systems of different countries. The anticipated outcomes of the second Global Conference on Corruption Measurement, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025 at the UNDP headquarters in New York, were also discussed.

The first Global Conference on Corruption Measurement took place in 2023 at the UNODC headquarters in Vienna, during which the “Vienna Principles for the Global Framework on the Measurement of Corruption” were introduced. Supported by Nazaha, this initiative is part of a broader effort to establish a comprehensive framework for assessing corruption on a global scale, in collaboration with various international orga
nizations.
