President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani received the British Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hitchen on Tuesday afternoon.

The Presidency of the Region said in a statement that "the meeting discussed developing relations and areas of joint cooperation between the United Kingdom, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and discussing the general situation in Iraq, the internal situation, the Kurdistan parliamentary elections and the Erbil-Baghdad talks to resolve issues between them."

The two sides stressed the importance of holding successful elections in the Kurdistan Region, and wished the voting process success.

They also agreed to resolve issues through dialogue and understanding. In this regard, Nechirvan Barzani described the common understanding between Erbil and Baghdad as the key to stability in Iraq.

The two sides discussed the situation in the Middle East and the danger of escalating tensions, and stressed the need to maintain peace and stability in the region and avoid further wars and conflicts and their consequences.
