NIHR participates in Eurasian Ombuds Alliance meeting in Russia

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, NIHR President, and Dr. Houria Abbas Al Dairi, the Commissioner for Child Rights, participated in the 9th meeting of the Eurasian Ombuds Alliance and NIHR. The meeting was held in Moscow over two days under the auspices of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation. Professor Tatiana Moskalkova, Head of the Russian Human Rights Commission, opened the conference with a discussion on the best practices for protecting human rights in the context of digital transformation. During the conference, Al Derazi highlighted the crucial role of focusing on human rights protection in the digital age and the impact of artificial intelligence on various aspects of life. He noted Bahrain's use of digitisation as a strategy to build a fair and inclusive society, enhancing the right to health and access to information, despite significant challenges related to data protection and privacy. He emphasised NIHR's focus o n safeguarding human rights during digital shifts and strengthening cooperation with the private sector to protect society. On the second day, Al Derazi presented a paper addressing key human rights protection issues in the healthcare sector, outlining general concepts, international instruments, and relevant national legislation. He called for improving healthcare services for persons with disabilities and stressed the importance of global solidarity to ensure the right to health for all, particularly in conflict-affected areas. He underlined the right to health as a key contributor of human rights and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being.
