Jeddah, The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen praised HRH the Crown Prince’s Middle East Green Initiative, which aims to contribute to efforts addressing climate change by raising vegetation cover, reducing carbon emissions, combating pollution, land degradation and preserving wildlife in the Middle Eastern countries, all of which are member states of the OIC and in international and regional organizations.
This came in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs of the Organization Tariq Ali Bakhit, at a virtual meeting today held at the Forum of the Civil Society Organizations Coalition to support the “Middle East Green Initiative”.
The Secretary-General stressed that this outstanding initiative is in line with the objectives of OIC Charter, which calls for the protection and promotion of the environment for the benefit of all generations, makes all efforts to achieve sustainable and comprehensive human development and economic progress of Member States, enhances the decisions issued by the Islamic Summit, which stress the need to confront the economic and social challenges rendering the environment in the region and the world and raising the contribution of clean energy and natural reserves, in a way that leads to achieving sustainable development in the region and enhances the quality of life of population.
