SAR Wins Two ESGBusiness Awards for Sustainable Transport, Net-Zero Efforts

Saudi arabia: Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has won two awards at the ESGBusiness Awards 2026: the Sustainable Transportation Award and the Net Zero Award - Transportation. The awards recognize SAR's efforts to integrate sustainability into its operations and develop more efficient, lower-carbon rail transport solutions. According to Saudi Press Agency, the awards were based on SAR's environmental and operational results in 2025. The shift from road to rail helped avoid more than 364,800 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, remove more than two million vehicles from the roads, and save more than 139.4 million liters of fuel during the year. The results highlight rail transport's growing role in reducing emissions and improving transport efficiency. SAR has also strengthened efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by expanding its use of renewable energy. More than 50% of its signaling and communications systems now run on solar power. The Haramain High Speed Railway and Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Metro Line Proje ct run entirely on electric power, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting a more sustainable transport system. The achievement underscores SAR's role in supporting the transition toward a more efficient and sustainable transport system, in line with the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. It also contributes to the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and Saudi Arabia's ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060.
