Saudi weightlifter Mohammed Al-Marzouq has set a global milestone for Saudi weightlifting by breaking the world record in the snatch and total in the 73 kg category. This achievement occurred during the 2024 IWF Junior World Weightlifting Championship in León, Spain, which runs until September 27, 2024. Al-Marzouq lifted 144 kg in the snatch, surpassing the previous record by 5 kg, with a total lift of 310 kg. The previous world record in the snatch was held by Indonesian champion and Olympic gold medallist Rizki Juniansyah, who lifted 139 kg. The former total world record of 309 kg was held by an Uzbek athlete. At under 17 years old, Al-Marzouq is participating in this championship to break the record in his age category.
